With the New Year around the corner many of us will be making resolutions, and one of the most common resolutions that many of us choose to make – is to improve our cooking skills. Whether we want to improve as a hobby or whether we want to improve for the sake of our family or our children – this is one resolution that is a great lifestyle choice.
Cooking properly and improving our cooking skills overall is something that cannot only improve our health, but can improve our lifestyle and happiness too. If you find you’re one of those people who never has the time to cook and tends to stock up on microwave food or ready-made oven meals – then making a resolution is one of the best things you can do for yourself.
Cooking properly means that you can cook gorgeous meals, healthy meals and you can do it promptly and quickly meaning that, suddenly, eating proper meals becomes the norm!
Of course, it’s also lots of practice and trial and error in the kitchen that will make you a fantastic cook in the kitchen! But, I’ve found that to aid in your culinary success, investing in the right tools for the job and tracking down the right equipment can take you up the culinary ladder quicker than if not. The truth is, whilst many of us might not give a second thought to using professional cooking tools and equipment – they can actually make our food better, and our cooking more efficient.
Here’s why you should invest in professional kitchen equipment:
1. Efficiency
Using the right tools when cooking can improve your efficiency 100%. It stops you wasting time on activities that shouldn’t actually take lots of time. Something as simple as investing in a blender and electric whizzer – can mean you save up to 10 minutes, which you would have wasted stirring and kneading. It’s the same with knives and peelers – if you invest money and buy these in good quality and professional level, you’ll finish the food prep much sooner!
2. Safety
Gordon Ramsey is quoted, saying that a sharp knife is much safer than a blunt one – and he’s completely right. When cooking, if you do a lot of food preparation and cutting (for things such as vegetable dishes and potatoes) then you need to be investing in a set of professional level knives. Buying professional level knives means that they are often weighted better – meaning you get a strong grasp on the knife and you can have more control of it. Make sure you keep your knives sharp too – a sharp knife glides smoother and easier than a blunt one, which cuts down the risk of it slipping and cutting you.
3. Your timing
Have you ever been cooking a large meal (such as Xmas dinner!) and you find that your preparation really slows you down? Cooking with the right tools, means you can get the prep work done quicker – which in turn means that your timing improves and everything ends up on the table at once. Instead of in bursts!

It is very true that the good cooking tools are essential for better cooking; I always prefer stainless steel cookware due to their durability and high performance.
